So believe it or not, this foodie girl had not eaten off a food truck until this last Friday night. I live in Northern California and every Friday night in Pittsburg, CA we now have a food truck gathering called Off the Grid. My husband and I decided to venture out and give it a try. We developed a strategy of divide and conquer. We each picked different food trucks and bought different types of food then came back together to share our treasures. Not all the food was great, some definitely was, but we did have a fantastic time!!! If you have access to such a gathering, I encourage you to give it a try! It’s a great opportunity to try a wide variety of foods from various ethnicities. Here’s what we had…

  • I bought some Persion fries with Han sauce from the Grab & Go Kabob truck. You can see the photo below. They were pretty good, but didn’t knock our socks off.

  • I also bought some fish tacos from the Canastas truck. Again, these were OK, but I’ve had better. And $15 for 2 tacos was a little steep.
  • Now my husband hit the mother-lode at the Say-Vee-Chay truck!!! Pork Empanadas – AMAZING!!! Fried plantains with pineapple salsa – OMG!!! Ceviche – Delicious!!! (Picture of ceviche below, sorry, but we gobbled up the empanadas and plaintains)

  • Lastly, we tried a shave ice (not SHAVED ice) from Kona Ice. This was just fun! Nothing gourmet here, but we enjoyed it. They give you your cup of shave ice and then you get to add your syrup(s) of choice from a bar on the side of the truck.

I will say none of the food was bad, just some was better than others. And some of the trucks worked more effectively and quickly than others. The people at the event were just fabulous! It was a gathering of friendly people that all enjoy food. We had a blast and will definitely go back.

I hope you all have access to a similar, fun event. If so, GO!!!

Enjoy!

This person recently followed my blog and when I looked at her site, WOW!!! The recipes look fantastic! It appears she is trying to raise money so she can start her own food truck! I would love do something like that myself, but it’s only a twinkle of a dream. But maybe by sharing this, I can help her achieve her dream! Check out her site and if you have the means, maybe you can help her in her fundraising venture!  Good luck Country Girl!

This one is a very special post for myself. I have not posted any new recipe for a while … it`s because I`ve been working on something else. I did actually start a campaign to raise funds for my own business!  Actually, you have no idea for how long I`ve been planning this. I don`t […]

Here in Northern California, we are fortunate enough to have abundant access to a wide variety of excellent wines. This past Saturday we had the good fortune to join a friend’s birthday celebration at the Co Co County Wine Company. I can’t believe we didn’t know this place existed. We had such a great time!

This place is a quaint little wine bar that serves local wines. Many, if not all of the wines, are from Contra Costa County. We enjoyed a bold, hearty red blend, Bloomfield’s Devil’s Daughter.

You can buy wines by the glass or bottle. You can also buy a flight of 3 wines for the price of a glass of wine, so you can try a variety wines to better decide what you might want more of.

They also serve beer and they have a couple light bites available for purchase. They have a meat and cheese platter and a garlic popcorn that you can munch on. Don’t expect dinner here though.

On some weekend nights, they have live bands. The band playing the night we were there was excellent. We really enjoyed their covers of classic rock songs. There was dancing and a good time being had by all!

If you’re in the East Bay Area, I highly suggest you try this place out. The are located at 633 First Street in Brentwood, California.

If you have never tried chicken and waffles, WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!? These things are a diet buster for sure, but maybe once a year I have to splurge on these. My sister and I are on a girl’s trip in South Lake Tahoe and yesterday we decided to head to one of our favorite local restaurants, Riva Grill, for brunch. What to order? No brainier! We both had the exact same thing! A raspberry woody and chicken and waffles!

Now these are no ordinary chicken and waffles! We’re talking rice crispy, buttermilk encrusted fried chicken that is so crunchy and tender with the perfect fry on it. BACON stuffed Belgium waffles. Oh yes, I said BACON!!! And don’t forget the fresh berries, maple syrup and chipotle blueberry syrup. OMG! This stuff is to die for! They give you a very generous plate full, so I am blessed to have leftovers for breakfast this morning. Never fear! I’ll burn some of this off by shoveling snow later!

Now, what is a raspberry woody you ask? It is a frozen concoction with raspberry puree, Malilbu and 151. One of these beautiful, tasty things was plenty!

I highly recommend paying Riva Grill a visit if you’re ever in South Lake Tahoe. It sits right on the lake. You can see the view from my picture below. This restaurant is particularly nice in the summer. They have a lovely patio and there is nothing better on a warm summer’s day that sitting out there with an ice cold drink and one of Riva’s wonderful dishes. They offer a wide variety of foods. I’ll just say there poke appetizer is to die for too!

South Lake Tahoe – A Winter Wonderland!

Tahoe is especially beautiful today! In drought ridden California, this snow signifies some relief. It won’t solve our drought troubles, but it definitely is a welcome help! We’ve received about 3 inches of the beautiful white stuff and it has turned this South Lake Tahoe neighborhood into a winter wonderland!

The skiing and sledding is great, so come on up! A little later, we’re going to head to one of our favorite local restaurants, Riva Grill, for a wonderful brunch. More to come on that later!

This charming PBS show was recently added to Netflix. I’ll Have What Phil’s Having follows Phil Rosenthal, creator of Everybody Loves Raymond, on his global travels. You can’t help but smile at Phil’s childlike wonder at the food he enjoys. He’s also not afraid to let it be known when he doesn’t like something. Basically, if you like food and enjoy seeing international travel spots watching this show will be enjoyable time spent with a smile on your face.

There are only 6 episodes and you will visit wonderful places like Paris and Tokyo with Phil. Along the way you will see several familiar faces enjoying meals with Phil. You will also be introduced to his adorable parents.

This is a completely family friendly show, so gather the family around and enjoy!
